My trip to Guatemala was a life-changing event for my mind, body, and spirit.  Here are just a few of the amazing things I learned from some amazing Yogis:

“The components of anxiety, stress, fear, and anger do not exist independently of you in the world.  They simply do not exist in the physical world, even though we talk about them as if they do.” – Wayne Dyer

“No expectation; no ego.  No ego; no doer.  No doer, only inner peace.” – Dennis Hill

“Everyone everywhere at all times is doing the best they can with what they have.” – Dennis Hill

“Let go of the pretention that you’re in control of your life.  You never were, you never have been, and you never will be.  And that’s fantastic.” – P.S. Bose

“Release judgment.  Detach from the mind, and we can change the pattern, the habits and become who we really are.” – Vedantin

“Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.” – Henry Ford

“At some point, you have to make a decision.  Boundaries don’t keep other people out.  They fence you in.  Life is messy.  That’s how we are made.  So, you can waste your life drawing lines.  Or you can live your life crossing them.” – Marie (from guest journal at Home in San Pedro, Guatemala)

“Don’t be afraid to change your path if the life you’re leading doesn’t feel right.  Listen to your intuition.” – Unknown

“You are what you want to become.  Why search anymore?  You are a wonderful manifestation.  The whole universe has come together to make your existence possible.  There is nothing that is not you.” – Thich Nhat Hanh

“You find the beauty everywhere you go [if] you carry that beauty within you.” – Vedantin

“In the end these things matter most: How well did you love?  How fully did you live?  How deeply did you let go?” – Jack Kornfield

  1. I just read this recently and it was published anonymously: be confident. Too many days are wasted comparing ourselves to others and wishing to be something we aren’t. Everybody has their own strengths and weaknesses and it is only when you accept everything you are-and aren’t- that you will truly succeed. Another quote I recently enjoyed is: “in the end, only three things matter: how how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you.”-Buddha

Balanced individuals seem to be able to demonstrate these pieces of wisdom in the way that they live. Something to strive for personally and seek to surround myself with in the friends that I make.
